We discovered Top Hand during a herd visit in the Summer of 2007. After being turned out with nearly 60 pair on a quarter section of grass for nearly 60 days, he posessed the body condition of a 2 year old show bull. We were, and still are today, fascinated with this bulls nearly perfect phenotype. His soundness, muscle shape & pattern, combined with his excellent disposition make him one of the favorites in Greens Fork.
As his daughters start to enter production around the country, we find them to be excellent performers. They are stretched through their skeleton and and have a beautiful pattern. These are the kinds of Shorthorn females that can play in nearly any role. When compared to all breeds, Top Hand is one rare beast. Compared to some of the most famous sires of all beef breeds, he considered to be one of the highest profitability bulls in the business. At the 2010 Great State Feedout in SW Iowa, Top Hand progeny were consistently some of the best at feed efficiency, WDA, ADG, Yield Grade and Quality Grade, etc. This allowed Top Hand to rank in the top 6th percentile for overall profitability after hundreds of sire groups and thousands of steers were tested and slaughtered. Again- look at his daughters, they are true beef cows that maintain excellent femininity!
